I have quite a few projects going on right now! I'm working with 4 different brides on their wedding invitations, programs, etc.

Here are some of my initial designs... keep checking back to see what the final ones look like! (You can click on the image to make it larger.)

I also donated a personalized stationery package for Baker University's Gala auction. The highest bidder gave the package to her friend in Kentucky as a gift! So I've been working with the recipient on some personalized notecards. The package was for 24 folded notecards, 4 different designs, 6 cards/design. She told me that she likes floral patterns and the color green. This is what I've come up with so far:

You can see that with a lot of my designs, I've been repeating some elements. Right now I'm in love with damask patterns! I try to use it as much as I can!

I plan on taking photos of my finalized work. I think it's more fun to see how they actually look, printed out, instead of just a computer generated image.

Graphic Designer... An Occupation I Truly Love

With the encouragement and support of friends and family, I finally decided it was time to put some of my design work on the world wide web! (Thanks Mom, for being my first follower!)

This is my first attempt at blogging, and I don't really know where to start with this first post, so I guess I'll start with a Cliff's Notes version of how I got to this point in my life.

I find is so amazing how the first 18 years of life, we all basically have the same education and knowledge. Then, somehow, in 4 years (or more for some!) we all come out being specialized in an area. I would like to state that mine is not English, so please pardon any grammar and spelling mistakes!

In 2000 I was a freshman at the University of Kansas, thinking I was going to major in Journalism. I had been on the yearbook staff in high school, and I really enjoyed the layout and design aspect of it. That first semester at KU, I was in a PRE101 class, which was kind of like an introduction to college. One of our assignments was to interview someone in the field we planned on majoring in. This could have easily been made up, but being the rule follower I am, I did the assignment. After a few e-mails and interviews, I discovered that a professional page layout designer is called a graphic designer! So, with no art background at all, I went off to the School of Fine Arts!

Fast forward 4 years of late nights, tears, stress and exacto blades, I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design from KU. I was lucky enough to get a job right out of college as a graphic designer, and today, 5 years later, I am still working for the same great company.

So fate has brought me here, to an occupation that I truly love! Most of my days are spent designing newsletters, brochures, stationery and postcards. These projects have pretty specific guidelines, so it has really helped to grow my design skills and knowledge.

Like most 20-somethings, many of my friends have started to get married. Like one of them said, you put wedding in front of anything, and the price automatically jumps up. So out of a need for affordable wedding programs, table numbers and escort cards, I got my first side job.

Besides things for weddings, I've done birthday party and baby shower invitations, personalized stationery, recipe cards, Christmas card, and wine labels, just to name a few. I really enjoy personalizing things for people for a reasonable price.

This may have been a little longer than the Note's Cliff would have written about me... but I can be long winded sometimes! I hope to use this blog to post projects that I do and things that inspire my designs. Please check back to see my work! Thoughts and suggestions are always welcome!
